Training! ~Build A BLOGGER Blog!~
September 30th, 2008OK! Here we are again!
Lets get right to work. We are going to build a Google Blogspot Blog. (Remember To Read All The Way Through Before Starting This Project!)
So Out the gate go to: https://www.google.com/accounts
And if you do not have Gmail account, go ahead & sign up for one, as Google HiJacked a couple of my Blogs that were not gmail accounts and assigned them to my gmail accounts. We will start this way and later will not have to figure out what happen.
Either sign in if you have a Gmail account and if not click on: Create an account now then fill out the form:
Your current email address: e.g. myname@example.com. This will be used to sign-in to your account. You have to have an existing E-Mail address of some kind.
Choose a password: Minimum of 8 characters in length.
Re-enter password: (Do It Again!)
Word Verification: (Type the characters you see in the picture below. Not Case Sensitive.)
Read Terms of Service:
(By clicking on ‘I accept’ below you are agreeing to the Terms of Service above.)
Click on: ‘I accept. Create my account’ Walla! Your in!
Now go to: https://www.blogger.com/ which will take you to: https://www.blogger.com/start
You will see a Big Number 1 in a circle and = 1 Sign up for Blogger
Put in your E-mail Address: e.g. myname@example.com
Now choose a ‘Display Name: I chose = “My First Blog”
Read the TOS (Terms Of Service) then check the ‘Acceptance of Terms’ Box. Now click on: ‘Continue’ (Arrow)
Now you are on Page 2, as you can tell, as you will see: You will see a Big Number 2 in a circle and = 2 Name your blog.
Put in your Blog Title in Box, (Your blog’s title will appear on your published blog, on your dashboard and in your profile.) I put in “My First Blog”,
Blog address (URL) I tried ‘http:// “My First Blog”.blogspot.com’.
which it rejected and with a little work, it gave me “1st-time-blog-lesson” which will wind up as, ‘http://1st-time-blog-lesson.blogspot.com’ my new Blogger URL.
I Know I know, What is an URL? It is not important now, but since you asked it is an Abbreviation of “Uniform Resource Locator”, the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web.
Skip the Rest as you can come back to it later. Now click on: ‘Continue’ (Arrow)
Now you are on the 3rd step! Which is a Page 2 too!
2 ‘Choose a template’. You have 12 to choose from and you can always change it later when you find one “You Really Want”! Lets go with San Dollar, so click the little radio button and again … click on: ‘Continue’ (Arrow)
[From Here:]
Walla! Your blog has been created! click on: ‘Start Blogging’ (Arrow) and we are at your dashboard for your blog. We wound up under the ‘Posting’ tab on the ‘Create’ tab which is where we will write our 1st post on our ‘Brand New Blog’!
Guess what you put in the ‘Title Box’? Yep! This is my 1st Blog Post! (Or what ever you want.)
Here you have the choice of 8 different fonts. 5 Text sizes. (TT), Bold/Strong, Italicize/ Emphasis, Text Color, Link, Text Alignment; Left, Center, Right & Justify. Numbered List, Bullet List, Block Quote, Spell Check, Add Image, Add Video, And Last but not least; ‘Remove Formatting From Selection.
Most of these are on your word processor, Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org’s Writer, (Which is free! My favorite Price!)
So lets just some of these options and “CREATE”! I will copy the paragraphs above and I will paste in it in the body of my 1st Blog Post. (CLICK HERE To See It!)
OH! Please Note! In order to Paste anything, you need to be in the ‘edit html’ tab, Then switch back to the ‘Compose’ tab to continue.
[To Here:]
Now I will high light all of that Text, (Click&Drag at the left top down to the bottom right, then release.) Now I click on the Bold button and while the text is still highlighted I click on ‘Text Color’ and chose a green.
Click on the ‘Preview’ to look at it and then back and forth till you get it like you want it.
Lets make a ‘Hot Link’. Highlight Openoffice and click on the ‘Link’ Icon, so the box opens up. Now put in ‘http://www.openoffice.org/’ in the box. Make sure the ‘http://’ is only there once.
Down at the bottom I will put this URL: http://www.dpgatten.com and will highlight it and paste the URL of this post in the box.
Lets finish this post and I will show you how to do that.
Lets put an image/picture in it for that special touch. Pick a small one to start with. Click on ‘Add Image’ and when box opens up, click on ‘Browse’ button and find an image or Picture, (on your computer.). It will take a few seconds for it to set up and then check ‘right layout’ and ‘small image size’ then upload!
Your image has been added. Now click on ‘Done’. WALLA! The Wife of my Youth and a strange man! ![]()
Put in some Labels/Tags; e.g. blog, free, post, options.
Click on ‘View Post’ and there you have it!
To get the URL of the specific post, Right Click on the ‘Title’ and then on ‘Copy Link Location’ now you can paste it in the link box.
OK - Next time we will dress our Blog up a little. Do not be afraid to play with it as you can delete it and start over again.
Be Blessed, DP
