Now that you have Google Search under your belt, you may not want to go much further, as all the Search Engines (SE) have their sites laid out very well. To the degree, that should you barely have the expertise to reach their Search page you will not have any problems to use what is before you.

MicroSoft Network (http://www.msn.com/) has a full page with a search box at the top, to type in your search parameters. This will suffice for your ‘Ordinary Garden Variety’ searches. Now to set up your ‘General Settings’ or go to an “Avalanched’ search, to the right of the ‘search box’ you will see a ‘Live Search’ link to their stand-alone SE. (http://www.live.com/)

Now that you are there, the options are laid out for you. We will take you thru a couple to ‘Get Your Feet Wet’.
The ‘Cowboy’ background has camouflaged links in it, should you have time to play with them. Above the search box, there are options to be more selective in your search and ‘Web’ is the default search.

Top Left of the page you can click back to MSN’s other sites and on the Top Right, ‘LogIn’, ’Advance search’ (here you can change the ‘General Settings’, for a single search.) ‘CashBack’, (Should you be an ‘On Line Shopper’, check this out.) ‘Options’, (We will look at this below.) and ‘Locality’ for lack of a better word, where The United States’ is the default, with other places to choose to search should you have the need to be more specific.

Now under ‘Options’, you may change your ‘General Settings’, (Called ‘Preferences’ in Google.) and the basic choices, except in ‘Live Search’ you are limited to displaying only 50 pages.

Every Page has the ‘Help’ link at the bottom and we will look at one of the FAQs for this lesson. We Clicked on ‘How can I customize my search?’ and as you can see these directions, will meet your needs. i.e.
1. Go to http://search.live.com.
2. On the right side of the search box, click Options, and then click Advanced Search.
3. In the Advanced search box, under Find search results that include the following, type the keywords for what you want to find, and then select one of the following options:
Continue to choose your options and then
4. Click Add to search.
5. When you’ve finished adding options, click the search button.
WALLA! You are in Business and now you are ready for the Next Lesson

Needing to have a link on another one of my Blogs, it is now apropos to do a little look at ‘Search Engines’. Before Google there were many SEs and when Google appeared, I did not know how I did with out it. In fact even though we will start with it, I have to admit that this will give me a chance to go back and see how some of the others are working, they still vying for a piece of the action.

This training will not only give you a way to find things on the Internet, it will also allow you to have some understanding on SEO i.e. “Search Engine Optimization’ works.

(Remember To Read All The Way Through Before Starting This Project!)

OK Go to http://www.google.com/  Google Logo and lets take a look! Pretty Simple ‘out the gate’, just type in a on or more word item you are looking for, e.g. Energy and then hit ‘enter’ or click on the ‘Google Search’ Button and at the top we are informed that there are about ‘499 million’ pages to choose from. Should this be your first time to Google or you have never fined-tuned it, you only have the first ten (10) on this view.

Now add another word so we now have, ‘Energy Medicine’ and it narrows it down to ‘25,400,000’ different pages. The more words you add the narrower it gets. Keep in mind that out of that 25+ mill, there will also be pages with only one word or the other. To get a better feel for what I just said, put those two words in Parenthesis so it looks like this: “Energy Medicine” and again hit enter. Now we are down to 346 K (345,000) pages, every page will have both words in it.

Before we continue with the search mode, lets dial in our GSE. (Google Search Engine) Before you do your first search, to the right of the ‘Search Box’ you will see ‘Advanced Search’, ‘Preferences’ and ‘Language Tools’. Now after the first search you will only see ‘Advanced Search’ and ‘Preferences’ to the right of the ‘Search’ Button. You can customize your search by clicking on Advanced Search, tho we are going to fine tune the default Preferences by clinking on … Yes … the word “preferences”. These settings will affect all uses of Google Programs, so keep this in mind as you experiment. And I do want you to experiment.

Leave all the defaults in place, except scroll down to ‘Number Of Results’ click on the display box, (10 is the Default.) and click on 100 (Results per Page.) and to the top or bottom to click on ‘Save Preferences’, which will bring you back to your search page. Now you will see the first 100 (In lieu of the default 10.) with out having to click on the next page at the bottom.

For you ‘Sharpies’ out there, wanting to know why I am being so explicit, read a prior post that explains why! i.e. CLICK HERE

Now that we have our two word ‘Search String’ in place within Parenthesis, we will fine tune it some more. Place a space after the last Parenthesis, then a + and with out any space we add a new search word to tighten it uo some more. Using ‘autism’ after the plus (+) we get it down to ’17,500’ meaning that many with the word ‘autism’ in them somewhere.

By removing the word yoga using a Minus Sign (-) e.g. –yoga after autism space we have eliminated over 10K pages. (7,2600) eliminating the word Reiki we have ‘”Energy Medicine” +autism -yoga -reiki’ now leaving ‘6,060’ thus cutting another 1K+ pages.

WOW! It is good to see you again!

We are going to take a break in the ‘Step By Step’ and ‘Hands On Training’ and look at some other things that are important that do go ‘Hand In Hand’ with the ‘Training’.

There are several Reasons to Build Blogs and there are different Blogs that you will build to Blossom your Business. While we are in the middle of Blog Building, let us look at some of the Reasons and Kinds.

REASONS:

a.    To actually sell products;  As we continue with the training, we will learn how to develop and then market our own products. Also see how we can make money selling other people’s products. i.e. Affiliate Marketing.

b.    To introduce & then send 2 sales page; Some times called a ‘Squeeze Page’ we will learn how to write Sales Copy and then get a potential customer to opt in and buy or at least get their Name sand E-Mail Address.

c.    Overall 2 build a presence of your personal name &/or Company on the Web;  If you want to know if you or your company have a presence  on the Internet go to: http://www.google.com/  and do a search for you name.  Now do it with a well known person, (Like me, … just kidding) and see the difference.

Now lets see some Different Kinds of Blogs:

a.      Dynamic updated;  A normal Blog is like a journal or info site that is updated regularly.  e.g. once, twice, thrice or more each week. e.g. http://www.wonpreacher.com/

b.    Static with info gathering;  usually a sited where one can collect names and E-Dresses in exchange for something that most of the time is free.  e.g. http://www.workfromhome.dpgatten.com/  with a form to fill out.  And http://www.thankyou.dpgatten.com/ Probably never is changed.

c.    Personal (Journal, Thoughts, perspectives, etc.);    many different kinds of these Blogs. Here are a couple examples; e.g. http://moneyfavorsspeed.blogspot.com/  (active)  and  http://whatdoicare-bil.blogspot.com/  (A long ways behind)

ADVERTORIALS In Business!

Just like Consistent Posting, copy writing is important too and they go hand in hand. It is not something that happens over night. My start is learning to write Advertorials to begin with and my first one is at the top of this page in the header. Click Here to see it.
What is an ‘Advertorial’? Here is a definition From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

 

An advertorial is an advertisement written in the form of an objective opinion editorial, and presented in a printed publication — usually designed to look like a legitimate and independent news story. The term “advertorial” is a portmanteau of “advertisement” and “editorial.” Merriam-Webster dates the origin of the word to 1946.[1] An example of a 1960s era print advertorial for toupees can be found at Modern Mechanix.

Advertorials differ from publicity advertisements because the marketer must pay a fee to the media company for the ad placement, whereas publicity is placed without payment to the media company and with no control over the copy. Most publications will not accept advertisements that look exactly like stories from the newspaper or magazine they are appearing in. The differences may be subtle, and disclaimers—such as the word “advertisement”—may or may not appear. Sometimes euphemisms describing the advertorial as a “special promotional feature” or the like is used.

Advertorials commonly advertise new products or techniques—such as a new design for golf equipment or a new form of laser surgery. The tone is usually closer to that of a press release than of an objective news story: advertisers will not spend money to describe the flaws of their products.

Advertorials can also be printed and presented as an entire newspaper section, inserted the same way within a newspaper as store fliers, comics sections, and other non-editorial content. These sections are most often seen within newspapers such as USA Today, and are usually printed on a smaller type of broadsheet and different newsprint than the actual paper.

Many newspapers and magazines will assign staff writers or freelancers to write advertorials, usually without a byline credit. A major difference between regular editorial and advertorial is that clients usually have content approval of advertorials, a luxury usually not provided with regular editorial.

A related practice is the creation of material that looks like traditional media (for instance, a newspaper or magazine) which is in fact created by a company to market its products. One familiar example are airline in-flight magazines which usually feature reports about travel destinations to which the airline flies. Some editors expect readers themselves to spot the commercial interests that lie behind a supposedly disinterested contributor, whilst a few are seeking signed declarations from untrusted journalists offering apparently skewed reportage[2]

Product placement is another form of non-obvious paid-for advertising. This strategy was first popularized during the energy crisis of the 1970s. Mobil Oil felt its efforts to gets its side of the story out through the American press was failing. Political and media advisor Fred Dutton developed a strategy to publish Mobil Oil’s opinion as an advertisement on editorial pages across the country. The strategy proved successful in getting its message out to both the public as well as politicians and Mobil Oil quickly became identified with this unique advertising strategy.

Pagan Christianity! II - Important News.

I just received a ‘Heads Up’ on Frank Viola’s “Pagan Christianity” from my underground source. … … … NO … It is my ‘Down Under Contact’. i.e. a link to ‘Brother Maynard’, and his Blog ‘Subversive Influence a post titled “A Conversation with Frank Viola, Part I

Brother Maynard was somewhat critical of PC in his review of it Monday week ago, Feb. 4th yet as a responsible journalist he contacted Frank (via E-Mail) that resulted in this Part I of a multi-part interview. Not having read FV’s writing for a season, I was really impressed with Bro. M’s style of digging in that brought out a fuller understanding of where FV is coming from & going.

BTW! Just to show you how I was influenced by the interview, I have ordered four copies of PC myself from, Amazon.Com, not waiting to get it in our store.

Here is a short quote from: A Conversation with Frank Viola, Part I:

Frank: I’m not sure. I’ll simply say that we didn’t write the book in the style of an arm-chair scholar. It’s not a book disseminating sterile historical information. I’m someone who lives and breathes for the church of Jesus Christ. This incredible Christ has overwhelmed my life. And she, the ekklesia, is my passion. Therefore, the writing style and message is not just aimed at the frontal lobe, but at the heart, the spirit, and the conscience. There’s passion and energy behind the book. For better or for worse, that passion is rooted in a jealousy for the centrality, supremacy, and headship of Jesus Christ and the freedom of His beloved Bride. That doesn’t make me infallible in my conclusions; it just means that these issues have moved from my head to my heart. (I agree with N.T. Wright when he said that about 1/3 of what I’m telling you is probably not correct. But I don’t know which 1/3 it is.)

As I reported last Saturday that there was some, near if not outright, vehement criticism, ‘Like Book Burning’ threats towards Frank and George Barna’s rework of “Pagan Christianity”.

Here is part of Frank’s response to some of that criticism:

Frank: From what I’ve seen, some critics of the book are incredibly articulate. They are highly gifted writers — the kind of people you’d love to have in your corner if you were under attack. It’s been reported that at least half the reviews are by people who didn’t read the book or surface-skimmed it. (Interestingly, a friend of mine recently made the observation that “Pagan Christianity is the most reviewed book by those who haven’t read it.”)

Bro.M Ouch!

What I think is so stupendous is, as I write, I am coming across so many more resources, revisiting Frank viola and his works and now Brother Maynard, which I have bookmarked for ‘A Keep A Eye On’ Link.

In addition, of course, ‘This Is News’ for me, as I love Books and Everything else about them. e.g. Reports, Reviews, Business, and of course … Value!
