This Is A Reply To My Request To Senator Feinstein To Bring HR1207 To Floor For A Simple Up Down Vote.
Dear Mr. Gatten:
Thank you for contacting me to express support for legislation to increase transparency at the Federal Reserve. I appreciate hearing from you, and I welcome the opportunity to respond.
The Senate is currently debating Wall Street reform legislation (S. 3217). On May 11, 2010, I supported an amendment to this bill offered by Senator Bernard Sanders (I-VT) that would significantly increase transparency at the Federal Reserve and require an audit of its emergency lending activities. Specifically, it would require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct an audit of the Federal Reserve within one year of the bill’s enactment. However, it would not allow the GAO to audit the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decisions or normal lending activities through the “discount window.” Additionally, it would require the Federal Reserve to disclose the names of financial institutions and foreign banks that received emergency financial assistance dating back to the start of this economic downturn. This amendment passed the Senate by a vote of 96-0.
As you may know, Senator David Vitter (R-LA) offered a similar amendment that would have required an audit of all Federal Reserve activities, except for unreleased transcripts from meetings of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. I joined 61 of my Senate colleagues in opposing this amendment because such disclosure could have harmful impacts. For example, exposing the Federal Reserve’s normal lending functions could lead to a run on a bank perceived to be in poor health. Additionally, such disclosure could prevent the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors from making interest rate decisions free of outside influence.
I agree that the trillions of dollars lent out by the Federal Reserve to stabilize the economy should be accounted for. The amendment offered by Senator Sanders would bring transparency to these activities, which is where I believe it is most needed.The House-passed version of Wall Street reform legislation includes a provision that is similar to the amendment offered by Senator Vitter. The House and Senate will likely reconcile the differences between their respective versions of this legislation in a conference committee in the coming months. Please know that I will keep your concerns in mind as I monitor these negotiations as they relate to the Federal Reserve.

American Taxpayers Looted To Bail Out The Euro

American taxpayers have been freshly liberated of hundreds of billions more dollars as part of the IMF’s new bailout package which is principally going straight to European banks, in addition to the Federal Reserve program to ship U.S. dollars to Europe, in a move that represents little more than a desperate effort to save the Euro and rescue the credibility of economic global governance.
“The Federal Reserve late Sunday opened a program to ship U.S. dollars to Europe in a move to head off a broader financial crisis on the continent,” reports the Associated Press.
“The Fed’s action reopens a program put in place during the 2008 global financial crisis under which dollars are shipped overseas through the foreign central banks. In turn, these central banks can lend the dollars out to banks in their home countries that are in need of dollar funding to prevent the European crisis from spreading further.”
As we reported last time this program was enacted, the Federal Reserve refused to say which foreign banks had received an estimated half a trillion dollars in credit swaps. The program is unconstitutional under Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution which states, “No money shall be drawn from the treasury, but in consequence of appropriations made by law.”
In addition to the credit swap program being re-enacted, the IMF portion of a separate European bailout package amounts to around $287 billion dollars. Since American taxpayers represent around 20 per cent of IMF funding, they will fork out something in the region of $57 billion dollars which which primarily go straight to French and German banks, not to mention the billions more in transfers of wealth that will occur through the Fed’s credit swap program.
“Politicians everywhere applaud this most recent rape of America’s working class, even as communism is now the global ideology,” writes Tyler Durden. “Who needs TheOnion.com when reality is now 10 times more surreal. And the direct recipients of taxpayer generosity: SocGen, AXA, Dexia, CA and all other French and German banks, which right now are all up ~20%.”

Bob Herbert recently wrote about the overzealous enforcement of “peace officers” assigned to New York City schools. The officers are accused of detaining, searching, handcuffing, and arresting students for silly things like drawing on desks, or handling — not using, but handling — cell phones in school.
In one case, a safety officer kicked in the door of a stall in the boys’ bathroom, wounding a student’s head. The officer’s response to questioning about the matter was: “That’s life. It will stop bleeding.”
Another student, this time a 5-year-old, was shipped off to a hospital psychiatric ward for throwing a tantrum.
These absurd reactions to normal childhood behavior is all part of “Zero Tolerance.” Six-year-old Zachary Christie faced disciplinary action after bringing a Cub Scout utensil that can serve as a knife, fork, and spoon to school. Apparently, the state of Delaware is terrified of children shanking each other, and after all, it’s the era of Zero Tolerance.
Treating children as suspects is the new normal in American culture. There is something innately wrong with children. If they’re too chatty, they need to be medicated. If they’re too angry, they need to be suppressed by a “peace officer.” They are not to be trusted, and must be monitored at all times.

The ongoing border dispute between the two nuclear powers has already claimed the lives of 4,000 men — most of them having died of exposure to the cold.
Now the Himalayan glacier is also at the center of a scientific dispute.(
In its current report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts that the glacier, which is 71 kilometers (44 miles) long, could disappear by 2035. It also predicts that the other 45,000 glaciers in the world’s highest mountain range will be virtually gone by then, with drastic consequences for billions of people in Asia, whose life depends on water that originates in the Himalayas. The IPCC report led environmental activists to sound the alarm about a drama that could be unfolding at the “world’s third pole.” “This prognosis is, of course, complete nonsense (

Detroit lawyer Kurt Haskell maintained from the beginning that he saw a well-dressed Indian man aid the accused bomber to board the plane despite the fact that he had no passport and was on a terror watch list.
“While Mutallab was poorly dressed, his friend was dressed in an expensive suit, Haskell said. He says the suited man asked ticket agents whether Mutallab could board without a passport. “The guy said, ‘He’s from Sudan and we do this all the time,’” reported the Michigan Live news website.
FBI agents interviewed Haskell and he told them about the sharp-dressed man but officials refused to admit that a wider CONSPIRACY was at hand, stoically maintaining the official story that Abdulmutallab had acted alone. Authorities claimed that videotapes did not show a second man accompanying Abdulmutallab and yet they refused to release any footage of the alleged bomber.
“Why is this not total breaking news?” asks Haskell’s wife on their family blog. “I think we now know WHY the video is not being released. Because IT SHOWS WHAT KURT SAID!!!!!! I mean, where is his apology? Where? They come out in the media, basically calling Kurt a liar, then they take it back, but it is in the bottom of another nonrelated article. Ridiculous.
