More Training! ~SnipURL~

September 6th, 2008 | by admin |

Hi there!

Hang on, as here we go!

Allow me to preface this training with an explanation on why I am putting in each small step.

When I first started to learn about this, I could not find a site that would explain how to incorporate the many tools (even at that time) that were available to start my Internet Marketing Trek.  Some times getting on “A NuBie Site”, I would be told to go here or there, with now and then, the admonition, “Just follow the directions!”

After 4 or 5 times of doing it wrong I might get it running and then again …
SO, you that know how to do more than, just turn the computer on, please bear with the rest of us that are not, as quick! ;-)

On the Last Training Session we signed up and started to use “TinyURL”, which allowed us to ‘Register’ and down Load TinyUrl to our FireFox Browser. This is convenient, as most of Internet Marketing is done through our on line connection.

Today we will look at another … ‘URL shortner’ (For lack of another word at this time.  ;-)
Here we will ‘Snip’ our selected URL down to a Bite Size Morsel from a Long Choking Mouthful.

Again, it will be beneficial to read this whole post before taking the first step.

Which is to go to:
http://snipurl.com/site/signup

and Register.  This is a stand-alone site and I recommend that you register, as SnipURL stores your Snipped URL on line that you will always have a record of what you have accomplished.

After you register you will be taken to your: “Default Snipurl Settings”
You can change password etc.

1. The first option on the left is ‘Drop Down Menu’ (DDM) for “Default prefix for your snips” = your choices are: snipurl.com, (which is the default) snipr.com and snurl.com and we will stay with the default for this session.

2. The next  option is “Default private key”  ‘Where you can enter a code, of no more than 6 letters. SniURL will automatically add this to your snipping so others cannot guess your snipurls.’   Which we will skip at first and come back to later.

3. Next is ‘Default language’ six different ones to choose from English is the default which we will leave as is.

4. Next: ‘automatically copy snips to clipboard’, which we will leave on “Yes” so that it will be easy to use.

5. Next: ‘Automatically close the popup shortcut window’ another one to leave alone.

6. Next: ‘Show long URL in brackets when the snipurl is copied’ Leaving this at ‘Yes’ on the ‘DDM’ is an advantage when creating Ads, some people need the added help when getting stated.

7. Next: ‘Automatically copy page title when the snipurl is copied’  again, unless  you need to save character spaces in your posting, Leave the ‘DDM’ at the default “Yes”.

8. Subscribe to “SNIPS News” as to your own preference.

Keep in mind that you can come back and change any of these settings at any time.

9. CLICK on ‘Save Changes’ and  then when it finishes with that CLICK on the Top Left Tab and lets “Create (some) Snips”!
Paste the long ugly URL into the ‘Long URL’  box, e.g. :
http://dpgatten.com/2008/09/02/day-two-of-biz-launch-and-training-already-tinyurl/

which is the last training here at your Free Internet Training site. Now CLICK on ‘Snip It’ below and WALLA!  The Snipped URL is on Clipboard and I will paste it here:

http://snipurl.com/3nrmr  [dpgatten_com]

As you see, it shows the Home Page where the Long URL originated, because of default of the ‘DDM’ above.

You can copy, edit, post it to an E-Mail or Social Site etc, trash and hide from the ‘Snip It’ page. Later you CLICK on the ‘Manage Snips’ Tab and have all the above options available, when you need them.

This will get you up and running to be up to speed with ‘SnipURL’!

Practice doing this, as we are going to kick it up a notch, next time.

In the Next Free Training Session, we will look at some of the other options and advantages of SnipURL!

Post your Questions to Comments Below, with E-Dress &/or Telephone Number and I will get back to you within 48 hours to help you out.   Be sure to Page Mark you personal Snip page, document your password, so you can always get back to it.

Until next time, this has been my pleasure, DP,
